About the artist: Ann Hubbard
I
was raised in Richmond,
Virginia and trained as
a classical musician. In
the early Eighties,
I traded music notes for
paintbrushes and colors. I
learned to paint in watercolors,
acrylic and oils, and continue
to learn via many local, national
and international instructors.
My love of the creative process
continues and I work daily strengthening
my skills as a painter.
In 1991 two other artists and I opened The Collage Arts Center in my hometown of Smithfield, Virginia. Today the center is the town’s not-for-profit cultural arts center. It serves to facilitate the promotion of the arts in Smithfield and Isle of Wight County.
In addition to painting I enjoy creating with clay. As I smooth my pieces, I often think about ancient peoples constructing vessels for everyday use and building spiritual sculptures of their deities. Like my painting, I continue to study the clay process.
My painting studio is in my house and my clay studio is located in the garden. I exhibit at local, regional and statewide galleries as well as multi-state facilities. I am the recipient of numerous awards and have works in private, commercial, and international collections.
On November 12, 2005, I opened a small space in my Victorian home to exhibit and market my work. I am fortunate to reside in a historic town where one is permitted, as in the days of old, to both live in and work from their home.
