COLOR SCAPES FINE ARTS
GALLERY
343 Main Street
Smithfield, Virginia
Color Scapes Fine Arts
Gallery opened in November
of 2005, and is housed
in a Victorian house, circa
1899. The front parlor
and long hall showcases
the mix media
art pieces created by Ann
Hubbard.
Originally the house was home to the last steamboat navigator, Captain Raymond Winder. His responsibility was to pilot the steamboat, Hampton Roads, from Battery Park, closely located near Smithfield, to the shores of Newport News. With the advance ment of the motor car and the completion of the James River Bridge the Hampton Roads, the last survivor of the Smithfield steamboats, was retired in the early 1930s.
Throughout the years there have been many owners of the house on Main Street. In 1987 Carroll and Ann Hubbard purchased the house and lovingly restored it as a home, studio, and the fine arts gallery, Color Scapes. Visitors to the home/gallery are welcomed by the Hubbards and encouraged to leisurely view the ever changing art.
A gentle taste of Southern Hospitality and fine art awaits those who visit Color Scapes and stroll the quaint historic town of Smithfield.
